Making friends as an adult can be tough, but Les Amis, a European-founded friendship app, is betting on AI to make it easier. The platform, designed for women, transgender, and LGBTQ+ individuals in their 20s to 40s, recently launched in New York, with more U.S. rollouts planned in Boston, Washington D.C., Miami, and Los Angeles.

Founded in 2022 by Anna Bilych (ex-PayPal) and Oleg Pashinin (ex-Google AI), Les Amis uses an AI assistant called Amis to match users with potential friends based on shared interests and life stages. Every two weeks, the AI facilitates “matching rounds,” giving users time to chat and set up meetups.

Beyond one-on-one connections, the app offers curated local events like pottery classes, wine tastings, and book clubs, as well as group trips to destinations such as Morocco and Iceland.

Les Amis runs on a membership model, priced at $70/month in New York and €55 in Amsterdam, with credits that can be spent on events across cities. The app has so far recorded 120,000 installs, with 30,000 women attending events. It recently hit a $1 million annual run rate.

The app is available across major European cities and is now building its footprint in the U.S. While events in New York begin on August 25, demand is already strong, more than 2,000 applications have been received from locals eager to join.
