Eyebot, a Boston-based healthtech startup, has raised $20 million in Series A funding to expand its network of kiosks that deliver doctor-verified glasses prescriptions in 90 seconds.

Founded in 2021, Eyebot aims to remove barriers to vision care like appointment delays, insurance hurdles, and high costs. Its kiosks, now deployed in malls, universities, pharmacies, grocery stores, schools, and airports, provide free vision tests. Prescriptions are reviewed and approved by licensed eye doctors, ensuring medical oversight.

The new round, led by General Catalyst, brings Eyebot’s total funding to over $30 million. It follows a June 2024 seed round and comes after the company conducted more than 45,000 free tests. Eyebot says it’s on track to deliver over 500,000 annually.

CEO and co-founder Matthias Hofmann said demand is growing quickly, with retail partners seeing increased foot traffic and families embracing the convenience. “Most importantly, we’ve proven the model works: People are using Eyebot, doctors are validating the results, and retailers are excited about the traffic it drives,” Hofmann told TechCrunch.

The startup is now focused on scaling deployment, expanding its clinical and commercial teams, and strengthening retailer partnerships. Its revenue model includes doctor verification fees and kiosk leasing to eyewear brands and optical practices.

The round also saw participation from AlleyCorp, Baukunst, Village Global, Humba Venture, Ravelin, and Ubiquity Ventures.
