Library e-book and audiobook app Libby is introducing an AI-powered feature called “Inspire Me,” which offers book recommendations based on prompts or saved titles. Users can refine suggestions by factors like age range, content type, or themes, and the app will display five titles available in their library’s digital collection. While Overdrive, Libby’s parent company, says the AI doesn’t collect unnecessary personal data or share details with third parties, some readers and librarians remain skeptical, preferring human-led discovery and raising concerns over privacy.

Overdrive insists the tool is designed to complement, not replace, librarian insights. The feature, soft-launched earlier this month, will roll out to all users in September.
