Tesla has released its fourth “Master Plan,” outlining ambitions to push humanoid robots and sustainable energy on a global scale. But unlike earlier roadmaps, the post offers few concrete details or benchmarks.

Even CEO Elon Musk acknowledged criticism of the plan’s vagueness, saying more specifics will be added later. Previous Master Plans included measurable goals, such as solar roofs, new vehicle models, and full autonomy, many of which remain incomplete years later.

Plan 3, published in 2023, came with a 41-page white paper. Plan 2, in 2016, promised a compact SUV (achieved with the Model Y), a semi and pickup (both delayed or underperforming), and autonomy features that remain unrealized.

This time, however, Tesla’s roadmap is broad, generic, and aspirational, reflecting Musk’s ongoing effort to recast the company as an AI and robotics firm rather than just an automaker.

The lack of substance has drawn criticism, especially as Tesla’s revenue still comes primarily from selling EVs and as Musk spends more time amplifying political rhetoric than making the case for Tesla’s future.
