Allianz Life has confirmed that personal data from the majority of its 1.4 million U.S. customers was stolen in a recent cyberattack. The breach didn’t happen through their own systems, it came through a third-party cloud-based customer relationship management (CRM) platform the company uses to manage client info TechCrunch.
Here’s what got exposed: names, mailing addresses, dates of birth. Thankfully, Allianz says there’s no evidence that financial details, medical records, or Social Security numbers were part of the breach. Financial Times
The breach was discovered in late May, but Allianz only concluded its internal investigation by mid-July. Since then, the company has reported the incident to the FBI and regulatory bodies, including the Maine Attorney General’s Office. AP News
Starting August 1, Allianz will begin notifying affected individuals and is offering 24 months of free identity theft protection and credit monitoring through Kroll to help minimize the potential fallout. TechCrunch
