Amazon says it is not secretly raising prices. Just business as usual.

Amazon is calling out what it sees as a misleading narrative: that it has been raising prices on popular products since Donald Trump returned to office in January 2025. A recent report flagged price hikes on over 100 everyday items, including things like snacks, baby products, and cleaning supplies, between January and June. But Amazon strongly disagrees with how that data is being framed.

The company said that its pricing system is dynamic and affected by a range of real-time factors, like stock levels, promotions, and third-party sellers, who set their own prices. Amazon says it does not control many of these listings and that the analysis ignores the broader context.

In fact, Amazon claims it has actually dropped prices on a large number of best-selling goods during the same time period. It argues that tying its price movements to the current political administration creates a false impression about how their marketplace works.

As of now, there’s no formal regulatory inquiry, and Amazon maintains that there’s no political agenda behind its pricing shifts.
