Amazon is expanding its Kindle lineup with a more affordable version of its colour screen e-reader. Following last year’s debut of the $279.99 Kindle Colorsoft, the company has now introduced a lower-cost model priced at $249.99. The new version comes with 16GB of storage, half the capacity of the original while retaining many of the core features. A kids edition of the device is also being launched.

The original 7-inch Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition was designed to enhance the Kindle experience with a vivid colour display, making it ideal for reading comics, graphic novels, and other visually rich content. It featured a glare-free screen, customisable warm light, dark mode, and up to eight weeks of battery life.

The new 16GB model preserves that same high-contrast Colorsoft display, fast page turns, and adjustable lighting, while omitting a few of the premium extras found in the Signature Edition namely, wireless charging, auto-adjusting front light, and larger storage capacity. As a bonus, the device comes with three months of Kindle Unlimited, offering access to millions of e-books.

Amazon is also introducing the Kindle Colorsoft Kids Edition for $269.99. It includes a colourful, illustrated cover, a two-year worry-free guarantee, and a one-year subscription to Amazon Kids+, which grants access to books, games, apps, videos, and more. The kids’ model also supports audiobooks via Bluetooth, and includes reading tools like Vocabulary Builder, Word Wise for learning new terms, the OpenDyslexic font, and other features designed to support young readers.

With this release, Amazon continues to broaden the appeal of its Kindle ecosystem, offering a colorful reading experience at a more accessible price point.
