Apple is expanding its enterprise tools with new features that give businesses greater control over artificial intelligence usage in the workplace. Starting with software updates set for release in September, IT administrators will be able to configure access to ChatGPT for Enterprise, as well as restrict or allow other external AI providers.

The move reflects growing demand for AI in business: OpenAI says its enterprise service now counts more than 5 million customers. Apple’s integration ensures requests are either processed locally or through a designated AI provider, without defaulting directly to OpenAI’s cloud.

The updates also bring several new tools for large organizations. An API for Apple Business Manager will let companies integrate device management into IT systems like MDM, inventory, or help desk platforms. Device migration will be streamlined for mergers and acquisitions, and Apple’s Return to Service option will now preserve installed apps, saving bandwidth and setup time. The feature also extends to Vision Pro.

Other enhancements include authenticated Guest Mode on shared Macs, NFC login support via Apple devices, and expanded device management capabilities.

Together, the updates underscore Apple’s push to make AI and device management more adaptable to enterprise needs while keeping privacy controls intact.
