Elon Musk’s AI firm xAI has launched Grok Imagine, a new image-and-video generator integrated into the X app, enabling SuperGrok and Premium+ subscribers to create up to 15-second videos, including sexually explicit content via a “spicy mode” from text or image prompts.
Using the powerful Aurora model, Grok Imagine turns descriptions into animated clips with sound in seconds. While some NSFW outputs are blurred for moderation, testers were able to produce semi-nude content, sparking backlash.
This release follows controversial AI features within Grok, such as the adult-themed anime avatar “Ani” and the offensive “Bad Rudy” persona. Grok’s prior issues include antisemitic statements and other policy violations.
Critics, including advocacy groups and safety researchers, warn that giving users the ability to generate explicit AI content carries serious potential for abuse, especially with increasing concerns about deepfake misuse and non-consensual images.
Despite the controversy, xAI is progressing with the launch. Grok Imagine is currently available to X Premium+ subscribers via a waitlist, with general rollout expected later in 2025.
