Nintendo Says Switch Prices Going Up Due to “Market Conditions”

Nintendo is raising prices on the Switch, and blaming market chaos, not Bowser.

Nintendo is raising Switch prices. Yes, after seven years. If you were thinking of grabbing a Nintendo Switch, now might be the time to move, because starting August 3, the price is going up. Why? According to Nintendo, it is due to “market conditions,” which is corporate-speak for “blame the tariffs.”

Specifically, this likely ties back to former President Donald Trump’s ongoing tariff drama, which now includes Vietnam, where Nintendo moved most of its manufacturing to dodge… You guessed it, tariffs from China. But surprise! Vietnam just got hit too.

So now we are all getting hit in the wallets.

Here is what is getting more expensive:

  • Nintendo Switch (original)
  • Nintendo Switch OLED
  • Nintendo Switch Lite
  • A bunch of accessories, amiibo, and even a Nintendo-themed alarm clock called “Alarmo”

Exact new prices have not been announced yet. For now:

  • The standard Switch still goes for $299.99
  • The OLED model is $349.99
  • The shiny new Switch 2 sits at $450

Nintendo says prices for the Switch 2 (plus games and memberships) will stay the same “at this time,” but let us be honest: that sounds like a future “surprise” loading screen.

Meanwhile, Switch 2 has already moved 5.82 million units since launching in June, so even if prices jump, clearly people are still playing. Nintendo knows you will pay more, because we all want to play. But here’s the real question: how much more nostalgia are we willing to shell out for?
