After years of complaints, Notion has finally introduced offline mode, allowing users to create, edit, and view notes without an internet connection. The long-requested feature, announced Tuesday, works across the company’s desktop and mobile apps and also supports downloading pages for offline access.
When users reconnect to the internet, the app will automatically sync changes made offline. However, certain elements like embeds, forms, and buttons will remain inaccessible without connectivity.
Subscribers on Plus, Business, or Enterprise plans will also benefit from automatic downloads of their recently viewed and favorite pages. For more control, users can disable automatic downloads or manage them through a new “Offline” menu in the settings panel.
CEO Ivan Zhao explained on X that building the feature required developing a conflict-resolution mechanism to handle edits from multiple users made offline, a challenge caused by Notion’s block-based database system.
With the update, Notion finally addresses one of its biggest usability gaps, making it more reliable for users on the go or in low-connectivity areas.
