OpenAI will acquire product testing startup Statsig in a $1.1 billion all-stock deal, the company announced Tuesday. Statsig founder and CEO Vijaye Raji will join OpenAI as CTO of Applications, reporting to Fidji Simo, the former Instacart CEO who recently took over as head of OpenAI’s Applications business.

Raji will oversee engineering for ChatGPT, Codex, and future apps, with Statsig’s platform expected to speed up product development. The startup will continue operating independently from its Seattle office while its employees transition to OpenAI. The deal is pending regulatory approval.

The acquisition comes with leadership changes:

  • Kevin Weil, OpenAI’s chief product officer, will become VP of OpenAI for Science, focusing on AI-powered tools for scientific discovery.
  • Srinivas Narayanan, head of engineering, will shift to CTO of B2B Applications, working with COO Brad Lightcap on enterprise partnerships.
