Orange, one of Europe’s largest telecom operators, has issued a warning about possible disruptions to its services as it investigates an ongoing cyberattack. The company confirmed the incident on Monday, stating that it is taking steps to contain the situation and minimize potential impacts. Though Orange did not reveal which systems were affected or whether any customer or corporate data had been accessed, it acknowledged the seriousness of the intrusion and said it is working closely with relevant authorities.
The company said it has mobilized all necessary means to mitigate the effects of the breach and emphasized that it would keep stakeholders informed. However, the lack of technical detail has left questions open, particularly whether this incident might be connected to an earlier and more extensive cyberattack that took place earlier this year.
Back in February 2025, Orange Romania suffered a serious security breach, which the company confirmed had resulted in the theft of around 6.5 gigabytes of internal data. The attacker gained access to the company’s systems and remained undetected for over a month before eventually exfiltrating thousands of files. That data included source code, internal documentation, corporate email addresses, invoices, and other sensitive company information.
After Orange declined to meet the attacker’s ransom demand, the stolen data was released publicly. The company maintained that the compromised system was a non-critical back-office application and said there was no impact on customer-facing services. Still, the scale and sensitivity of the data leak raised alarm bells, especially as the files were found to contain technical information that could have long-term implications for the company’s digital infrastructure.
Now, with a new cyberattack under investigation, the timing has reignited concerns about Orange’s security posture. While the company has not confirmed any link between the current attack and the February breach, the recurrence of serious incidents within a span of months suggests that Orange may be facing a persistent and sophisticated threat.
