Roku is expanding its streaming empire with the launch of Howdy, an affordable, ad-free subscription service priced at just $2.99 per month. The new platform boasts nearly 10,000 hours of premium content, drawing from major entertainment partners like Lionsgate, Warner Bros. Discovery, and FilmRise, alongside select Roku Originals.

Subscribers can stream popular titles including Mad Max: Fury Road, The Blind Side, Weeds, and Kids in the Hall. The platform will also cater to fans of rom-coms, medical dramas, and ‘90s comedy, offering a nostalgic and diverse viewing experience.

“Howdy is ad-free and designed to complement, not compete with, premium services,” said Roku founder and CEO, Anthony Wood.

The launch of Howdy follows Roku’s $185 million acquisition of Friendly TV, a service known for live TV, on-demand video, and cloud DVR. Howdy now joins The Roku Channel, Roku’s free ad-supported streaming service, which recently surpassed 125 million daily users, outperforming competitors like Tubi and Pluto TV.

A major advantage for Howdy is Roku’s massive reach, over 90 million streaming households globally. This user base positions Howdy for rapid adoption as consumers seek affordable, ad-free content alternatives.

The announcement comes on the heels of Roku’s strong Q2 financial performance, with streaming hours hitting 35.4 billion, up 5.2 billion from last year, and revenue growth of 15%, exceeding Wall Street expectations.

Howdy is now live and ready to bring fresh, ad-free entertainment to your screen, without breaking the bank.
