Spotify is introducing smart filters to give users more control over how they discover and organize content. The new feature lets listeners filter their library by activities, moods, or genres, and applies to playlists, podcasts, audiobooks, and even sessions with Spotify’s AI DJ.
The filters began rolling out on Friday and will be available first to Premium subscribers on mobile devices and tablets in select markets, including the U.S., U.K., Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and South Africa. Spotify expects the rollout to be completed in the coming weeks.
The launch follows a string of personalization features from the streaming giant. In recent months, Spotify has rolled out AI playlist prompts, playlist management tools, custom cover art, and updates to flagship features like Discover Weekly.
But not all users are pleased. As Spotify leans deeper into social features such as messaging, comments on podcasts, polls, Q&As, and video content, some listeners have complained that the app feels increasingly cluttered, more like TikTok or YouTube than a music platform.

Despite the criticism, Spotify’s growth continues. The company reported an 11% increase in total users year-over-year to 696 million, with 276 million paid subscribers, a 12% jump from the previous year.
