Meta is officially rolling out 10,000-character posts on Threads, up from the previous 500 limit. The feature is aimed at creators, writers, and publishers, making it easier to share long-form content, excerpts, or transcripts, and crucially, to link out to external work like blogs, newsletters, podcasts, or books.
Unlike X, which limits longer posts to paid subscribers, Threads’ expansion is free for all users. Posts can include formatted text (bold, italics, underlines, strikethroughs), highlighting, and emojis. Links will also display prominently, a contrast to X’s recent moves to downplay external links.

Meta says the feature was inspired by users sharing screenshots of long content. However, text attachments won’t yet be indexed by search engines or federated across decentralized platforms like Mastodon. The company says it’s exploring both options for future updates.
The move positions Threads as a more creator-friendly alternative to X, offering long-form expression without a paywall.
