TikTok remains banned in India, TechCrunch confirmed Friday, despite a brief window in which the platform’s website became accessible and fueled speculation of a return.

A TikTok spokesperson said the short-video app continues to comply with the Indian government’s directive issued in 2020 and has not restored access in the country. An IT Ministry official also confirmed that the government has not lifted or altered the ban imposed under Section 69A of the IT Act.
